Prepaid Wireless Carriers Boost And Virgin To Sell The Galaxy S5

The Galaxy S5 is on its way to Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile, according to an announcement from both companies today. We already know that Samsung’s new flagship is coming to T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint after official announcements from those companies right after the device was announced. Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile both run on Sprint’s network. The Galaxy S5 running on these prepaid carriers will have tri-band LTE support at launch and it should be arriving in the second quarter of 2014. The Galaxy S5 will be arriving in April at U.S. and global wireless carriers, so this falls in line with existing announcements from other carriers.

The Galaxy S5 is packed with features and will be one of the hottest selling handsets of the year. It has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1920 x 1080p resolution. No 2K display on the Galaxy S5, but is has a 432 pixels per inch density so the screen still looks amazing. It’s powered by a brand new quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC, clocked at 2.5 GHz. It has 2 GB of RAM under the hood, and will come in either 16 GB of 32 GB variants. The GS5 does have a microSD card slot, which is great because the stock firmware takes up almost 8 GB of on-board storage. The battery is 2800 mAh so it should get you through a full day without any issues. It’s smaller than we had hoped but Samsung didn’t do a ton of large upgrades with the S5.

The camera is one thing that has been upgraded, from a 13-megapixel shooter on the S4 to 16-megapixels on the S5. The HDR software has been updated a bit as well. It has an LED flash with ISOCELL and can record video in 4K if you want it to. Shooting in 4K video is limited to just 5 minutes at a time, though. The front facing camera is 2.1-megapixels. The device will support HSPA+ and LTE connectivity, depending on the market and your preferred wireless carrier. It’s going to arrive in four colors; Blue, White, Black, and Gold. It’ll be running Android 4.4. KitKat when it arrives on or about April 11th of this year.
