It appears that once again we won’t be seeing a new version of Android at Google I/O this year. Last year, many of us were surprised not to see a new version of Android and a new Nexus 7 at the keynote last year. According to an insider of Android Geeks, it looks like a Google Dublin employee has told them Android 4.5 is going to be unveiled in July, alongside a new tablet, the Nexus 8. This employee confirmed that the conference will focus on new services Google is launching.
The source also mentioned that Google is through developing 7-inch tablets. The reason being, that they are experiencing heavy competition on the segment. They are going to be going into the 8-inch tablet market, where there are still some big competitors like the Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 and the LG G Pad 8.3. However, this employee could not reveal any more details about the Nexus 8 tablet. But it’s definitely one that we’ll be looking forward too. As we’ve heard that HTC might be making the next Nexus tablet.
However, as far as OEMs go, sources in Taiwan suggested a few weeks ago that Google will launch the Nexus 8 in April with “initial shipments of two million units.” This same report also indicated that Google has chosen ASUS to develop the Nexus 8 for this year. Which they’ve already made two Nexus 7 tablets, and it gives us conflicting information as to who is making the Nexus 8 tablet this year. We should hear plenty more rumors between now and July, so we’ll be sure to keep everyone updated.
As far as Android 4.5 goes, it looks like there are no information as to what will be in Android 4.5, and if it will still be KitKat or another dessert or candy bar. How many of you are interested in a Nexus 8 tablet with Android 4.5?
