HTC is poised to hit the ground running this year, or at least make the attempt. So far we know about at least three devices that they plan to release, two of which were just announced at Mobile World Congress this week as part of the HTC Desire line. The third is The All New One that is scheduled to get its launch near the end of next month in March, and today we’re apparently learning about the fourth. The source of the news comes from a Japanese website, and claims that HTC is working on a follow up to the HTC Butterfly S. Not only is this phone allegedly under development, but it sounds like it will have similar specs to The All New One.
According to the source, the Butterfly S successor looks to be for the Japanese market as it seems to run on the CDMA2000 network. Spec wise, the follow up to the Butterfly S is said to have a 5.2-inch Full HD display, and manufactured by SHARP. Other specs include 2GB of RAM with options for a 16GB or 32GB storage model. It’s also rumored to be packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, and carry the same 5MP Ultrapixel dual-lens camera that we’re hearing about for The All New One. Battery wise we could be looking at a 3,000mAh battery, and the front facing camera is said to be 5MP. So far the specs are shaping up to be pretty good, and if this is what we can expect from the new Butterfly series device, then hopefully we’ll see a U.S. variant.
A new phone like this with these kinds of specs wouldn’t be complete without HTC’s new Sense UI, and it’s rumored to have Sense 6.0 layered on top of Android 4.4+ for software. Now keep in mind that the specs and the actual existence of the Butterfly S successor are still just rumors. Until HTC comes out and confirms any of the information they should remain referred to as such. With that being said, the phone is looking pretty good on paper. Perhaps we’ll see some more information and maybe even some images leak out in the coming weeks as we draw closer to the release of The All New One.
