Giant phones. Phablets. Gargantuan. Regardless of what you call them, there are some giant phones on the market. Recently we talked about the XPlay 3S, which is an upcoming 6.44 inch giant coming to China. In the states, we have the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, that sizes in at about the same size. Before we had even heard of the Xperia Z Ultra, people had been talking a lot about the Galaxy Mega phone, which some just viewed as a proof-of-concept device meant to show that we can in fact make a phone that large. The device itself was not that impressive in the spec departments, with a decent screen and a dual-core processor, which does not complement the size of the device. With a device as large as that, you would expect to be able to do a lot of multitasking and the like, but the processing power does limit what you can do smoothly.
This is where the rebuilt model comes in. To be clear, this is a remake of the 5.8 inch design, not the 6.3 inch one of the same name. The upcoming Galaxy Mega Plus will feature a 1.2GHz quad-core processor… and that’s about it. That is the only change in the hardware department. On the software side of things there are some mild additions. Samsung will be including S Translator, Popup Play, Google Play, Story Album, Multi Window, and some few other apps. This new model of the Galaxy line is currently only expected to show up in Chinese markets, and shows no indication of coming around to the US as of yet. While this exclusive is certainly good for the Chinese, I wonder if it would even be worth it to being to the US. As of now, there is no price information or release date available, but we can expect for it to be released soon, otherwise it would just be an out-of-date piece of technology released onto the market.
The big question here is whether or not it would be worth purchasing this device. I question Samsung’s motives, but then again I also am not the best person to ask for when it comes to international marketing strategies, especially with a market as intricate as the Chinese. What do you think? Does this remake have a chance at success? Should it come stateside, would you buy it? Let us know that and any other thoughts you may have down below!
