The Samsung Galaxy S5 was just announced by Samsung at their Unpacked event in Barcelona, Spain. This is their fifth generation of their Galaxy S flagship which has been very popular over the years for Samsung. I believe they’ve sold over 200 million combined, between the Galaxy S, S2, S3 and S4. Which is nothing to sneeze at. So what are the specs looking like for the Galaxy S5? Well a few of them are quite surprising actually.
The display on the Galaxy S5 is a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED 1920×1080 resolution display giving you a 432 pixel per inch experience. It’s also sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 2.5GHz, combined with 2GB of RAM and options for 16GB and 32GB of internal storage. There’s no word on microSD card slot just yet (announcement is still ongoing, we will update with more as we learn more). As far as the battery goes, we’re looking at a 2800mAh battery, which is a bit smaller than we expected, but should be enough to last you throughout the day.
As far as the camera goes, we’re looking at a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED Flash with ISOCELL and 4K video recording which is limited to just 5 minutes in length. There’s also a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. It’ll support 3G and HSPA+ networks as well as LTE Cat. 3 2×2 MIMO networks. So you’ll have blazing fast speeds on your Galaxy S5 once you get it in hand. It also features WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, USB 3.0, NFC and an IR Blaster to control your TV.
The dimensions of the Galaxy S5 are 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm and weighs in at just 145 grams. The Galaxy S5 will be available in Black, White, Blue and Gold. It’s also waterproof and dust-resistant to IP67. The USB port is covered with a plastic flap, similar to what Sony does with their Xperia lineup of smartphones and tablets. The Galaxy S5 is also launching on Android 4.4 – KitKat with a refined version of Touchwiz.
