Courtesy of a leak from a Sprint insider, we know that the Sprint version of the Galaxy S4 will be seeing the much-anticipated update to Android 4.4 KitKat starting February 13th. This update will be sent out via Google Over-The-Air servers, and customers must wait until their phone is set to update before starting. All you need to do once you receive the notification to update is to follow the on-screen instructions. If you are not sure that your phone updated successfully, simply go to the About Device option on the Settings menus and look at the software information. If you see the Android Version Number as 4.4, then you are good to go. The update will only come to you if everything on your phone is stock, meaning no ROMs or any of that fun stuff. In the software information, look for a Baseband Version number. It should be L720VPUFNAE. If it is that, then you are all set. Now you just wait until your phone is ready to go.
Besides the obvious benefit of upgrading the Android OS, the update will also add the Zact Mobile compatibility, which is Sprint’s version of Aio Wireless from AT&T, a company subsidiary. It also adds prevention pop-up removal to your device. All-in-all, this is a pretty straight forward deal here. If your phone is running stock, then you will be able to update once Sprint and the Google servers get around to your phone. It’s good to see Sprint updating something at least. While I was a customer of their’s, the updates did not come frequently, or if they did at all they were obsolete by the time I got them. With this, we see that Sprint will be keeping their variant of the Galaxy S4 up to date with the competition, and hopefully keep selling them. All Sprint stores should keep their demo devices up to date on the most recent software info, so should you want some hands-on time with the device and its new OS, that would be the place to go! Do you have a Sprint S4, and are you looking forward to this update? Let us know below in the comments!
