LG Electronics (LG) Canada announced yesterday that various Canadian carriers would be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade for the LG G2 by the end of this month – according to our sources, this roll out is already well under way for both Rogers and Bell customers. Check the usual way: Settings ->About Phone->Software Update. Next in line for the KitKat upgrade is the curved LG G Flex which came with 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and it will received its KitKat and KnockCode upgrades later in 2014.
The KitKat upgrade will add many little enhancements to your overall Android experience. Ross Snow, vice-president of Mobile Communications, LG Canada stated:
“LG is constantly striving to improve the user experience for its mobile customers and the latest KitKat OS upgrade furthers our commitment to Canadians. In addition to introducing new features, the KitKat OS upgrade for the G2 delivers a number of optimizations that enhance the entire mobile user experience. We trust that our customers will enjoy the differentiated value offered by our latest upgrade package.”
LG G2 users that upgrade should notice that their G2 should play music more efficiently and it will support the KitKat Battery Saving GPS mode – that can help extend the already great battery life of the LG G2 – that works by limiting the number of reference points the device uses to pinpoint your location. You can easily turn on the mode by: Settings->Location->Mode->Battery Saving. If you find yourself in a situation where you need as accurate a determination of where your phone is located, simply reverse the steps and switch the setting back to ‘High Accuracy.’
The KitKat upgrade should also provide a noticeable boost in the speed of your LG G2 allowing applications to run up to 17-percent faster as well as faster web browsing. The KitKat upgrade also includes a new feature called Google Cloud Printer that makes it easy to print documents via a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection.
Based on LG’s KnockOn feature, LG built on this and will be upgrading to their KnockCode in early Q2 (April). KnockCode allows the user to select a knock pattern to unlock their smartphone – simply knock the pattern on any location on the screen and the phone will unlock. With this new security measure you can set anywhere from two to eight taps or knocks, allowing for more than 80,000 possible combinations.
Check your LG G2 and let us know if the update has arrived on your device and what carrier you are using – we would love to hear from you on our Google+ Page.
