Apps are getting updates to make input easier. Google is going to be updating Google Docs with voice dictation sometime in the near future. That’s not all though. Today, Evernote updated their Android app to support normal handwriting. The new handwriting recognition feature is live and the updated app is available for download now on the Google Play Store. The update also fixes for a bunch of bugs, faster photo capture, and an enhanced note editor.
With this update, the search function within Evernote can now pull data from your typed notes, your handwritten notes, diagrams, sketches, and just about anything else you care to write down. Having this extra search functionality makes Evernote more powerful than ever. If you’ve got a Samsung Galaxy Note device, it’s even easier for you to use the new handwriting recognition in Evernote. Your S Pen is perfect for this. You can even have typed notes, handwritten notes, sketches or diagrams, images, and recordings all in the same note. Evernote will let you search through all of it, too.
“Whenever you’re in a note, tap the paperclip icon, then tap on the pen. If you need more writing area, tap the down arrow, then tap the plus. Use two fingers to move around the handwriting area. If you need a different color or thickness, choose it. When you’re done, tap on the checkmark. After that, you can continue typing, add an attachment, record some audio, and drop an image into the note. Everything is in one place,” Evernote says on their blog.
Evernote rolled out handwriting recognition in its iOS app over a year ago through the Penultimate app. This functionality is finally available to Android users. Evernote acknowledges the fact that they kept Android users waiting, but they think that they’ve got the feature nailed and they say it will be worth the wait. “It took us a long time to figure out exactly how to make this work. We think we have it. It’s beautiful, powerful and we’re excited to bring it to you today.”
The updated camera functions will speed up image capture, reducing the lag that some users had experienced with precious versions of Evernote for Android. Hit the Play Store link below and update the app to get in on the action.
