The HTC Desire 310 has already been somewhat announced, when it popped up on a Chinese website a few days ago. The Desire 310 has a 4.5-inch 854 x 480 resolution display, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage along with a microSD card slot, a 5MP camera on the back, and a 2,000mAh battery inside. It’s also running on Android 4.2 and only has 3G connectivity. Making it only a slight improvement over the Desire 300 with a few design tweaks. One of the design tweaks includes removing the capacitive buttons and going on-screen, which we saw with their more recent devices at Mobile World Congress and leaks of the HTC One 2014.
The Desire 310 is arriving in April on O2, Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse in Europe. It’s going to set you back around 169 Euros for the Netherlands. So far there’s no word on UK pricing, but you can expect it to be just as high. The Desire 310 is going to be a tough sell for HTC, given that the Moto G has much better specs, and it’s selling for just 100 euros right now.
If HTC is serious about betting on their low-end devices, then they need to actually show they care about that market. They need to put something out that’s priced about the same as the Moto G with similar specs. As we know, the Moto G has been a huge success. In fact, Motorola is saying it’s their most successful smartphone launch ever. Which is pretty amazing, but it’s also the first one that hasn’t been an exclusive to one carrier or even one country. Some of HTC’s low-end and mid-range devices look really good, but they need to step the spec game up a bit more, in my opinion.
