OnePlus Announces Style Swap Covers for their Upcoming One

OnePlus has been in the news a lot lately. They’ve been teasing us about their OnePlus one smartphone quite a bit, almost to the point where they might be over hyping it since we have basically seen zero leaks about the device. At least with other flagships we see plenty of leaks and rumors about it. However, we do know a few things about the OnePlus One, the company says we won’t have to settle for it. But also it’ll have a 5.5-inch display in a body that’s smaller than the Sony Xperia Z1, which means we’ll have some pretty small bezels, which I’m a fan of. Now the camera, will be a 13MP Sony sensor, with 6 lenses on there, instead of the typical 5. It’s said to be a pretty good camera, but as usual we’ll save our opinion until we get our hands on a device.

Now we already know that the OnePlus One will not have a removable back, but they did announce some Style Swap Covers today which will slide onto the back of your OnePlus One very easily. They are coming in Silk, Sandstone, Denim, Bamboo, and Kevlar. I’m sure we’ll see more coming after release as well. There’s no word yet on how much bulk the cover will add to the device, but it shouldn’t add too much bulk or weight to the smartphone. There’s also no pricing about these covers just yet, or availability. But I’d think that they’d be available when the OnePlus One is available.

To me, this seems a lot like OnePlus trying to use Motorola’s idea for MotoMaker. Instead of custom-making a bunch of smartphones, they are selling the covers for you to put on your device. Kind of like what Motorola is doing with the Moto G. It’s not a bad idea, but I would have liked  to see more colors from OnePlus and more materials. Hopefully it won’t be too expensive either.
