Sony Xperia Z2 – Could it be a Verizon Exclusive?

Is this the same old Verizon that we always complained about getting new releases later than everybody else is?  Today they surprised us with having the New HTC One in-house before AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, and now our sources tell us that the new, mouth-watering, Sony Xperia Z2 may not only be coming first to Verizon, but may actually be a Verizon exclusive.  According to a report out of Japan the Sony D6508 – which they claim is the model number for Verizon – received its Wi-Fi certification on March 3 and will support LTE/CDMA2000/WCDMA/GSM connectivity. It is expected to arrive at Verizon during the second quarter of 2014, which of course, starts in another week.

Considering that Verizon has not had a Sony branded smartphone on its shelves since the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY back in 2011, this comes as a surprise that the new Xperia Z2 would come to Verizon as an exclusive.  What doubles the surprise is that the nation’s fourth largest carrier, T-Mobile, offered both the Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia Z1, and it was only expected that they would also carry the Sony Xperia Z2.

This is great news for Sony as they are looking to grow their smartphone business in the U.S. and jumping on the nation’s largest carrier could give them the exposure they are looking for – especially if Verizon does a heavy promotion of the Xperia Z2. Sony devices have always been higher priced than others which have not helped their sales figures, but Verizon claims they have uncompromising customers that are willing to pay for quality and what they want, so it is possible that Sony products may sell better on their network.

The Sony Xperia Z2 packs a 5.2-inch IPS Full HD resolution with 424 ppi and a new imaging technology called Live Color LED.  It runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and has 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, although there is room for a microSD card up to 64GB.  The main camera is 20.7MP, is powered by a 3200mAh battery, and is running Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.  The device is also water and dust-resistant.

The Sony Xperia Z2 stands up well against the New HTC One, released today, and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5. Please let us know on our Google+ Page if you are excited about the Xperia Z2 and its arrival on Verizon’s network.
