When you think of 7-inch tablets, you don’t regularly think of a device that is capable of making phone calls. Although large devices have had an increasing popularity over the last couple years thanks to the phablet craze, and whitebox tablets in other regions like China more commonly coming with phone capabilities. At least one major manufacturer though has had a line of such devices for a while, ASUS-with their Fonepad lineup. You would think a tablet that had the capability to also act as a phone would cost a little more than what ASUS has been charging for their variation of this type of product, but the Fonepads typically come in under $300. It seems that ASUS may be trying to bring the cost of their newest Fonepad device to a new low for the series of devices, with their latest offering-the ASUS Fonepad K102.
This new Fonepad is rumored to have an even lower cost than previous offerings, but also comes with lower end specs which would explain the ability to bring the price down to something more affordable. The display is said to come in at 7-inches with a 1,024 x 700 pixel resolution, sport an Intel Atom Z2560 CPU that clocks at 1.6GHz with PowerVR SGC 544MP2 GPU, come with 1GB of RAM and hold 8GB of storage for whatever you desire. Sadly it looks like itll be running Jelly Bean 4.3 and not Android latest build.
The cameras are nothing special with 2MP on the rear face and a low 0.3MP on the front, but with the suspected extremely low cost what could we expect? All signs point to this being ASUS lowest cost offering of a Fonepad device so far, but no exact release dates and prices have been announced. The Fonepad K102 popped up over at GFXBench(the popular benchmarking website as well as TENNA where we end up finding loads of leaked images on devices from Asian OEMs. The K102 isn’t the only new tablet that ASUS apparently has in the works, as three more tablets ranging from 7-inch to 10-inch size displays have been listed as well-the K010, k011, and K013.
