Chinese manufacturer OPPO has officially announced the OPPO Joy for Indonesia, which is a low to mid-range device aimed at the entry level market. OPPO has made its mark in the western world by offering premium-end specifications coupled with gorgeous design. We saw this strategy work out very well for the OPPO Find 5 and now for the OPPO Find 7. However, so far it seems OPPO had not set its sights on the mid-range or entry level markets, which is changing with the launch of the OPPO Joy.
In terms of specifications, the OPPO Joy sports a 4-inch WVGA IPS LCD screen which offers a 800 x 480 pixels resolution, the screen also supports ‘glove’ mode and should be operable with capacitative gloves. In terms of connectivity options, the device sports dual SIM capabilities and you can hook up one normal and one micro SIM to the device. The device is powered by a dual-core processor, which is clocked at 1.3 GHz along with a meagre 512 MB of RAM. Internal storage is limited at 4 GB which is expandable thanks to the built-in MicroSD slot which supports up to 32 GB of additional storage. A basic 3 mega pixel primary snapper is available for occasional photographs, though despite the LED flash we wouldn’t expect very high image quality, whereas selfies and the occasional video call will be catered to by a 0.3 MP secondary front facing camera. The device measures in at 9.9 mm thickness and weighs around at 125 grams, while it supports 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n along with Bluetooth and GPS. OPPO Joy is powered by a 1700 mAh battery.
The device will run on OPPO’s Color OS, which is basically a skinned variant of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which offers a unique Quick Reach mode wherein you can draw patterns double tap on the display to launch apps etc. The device is so far launched for consumption in the Indonesian market only, in two color variants – white and black – for IDR 1,699,000 (USD ~147). There is no indication whether it will see a launch outside anytime soon, however, if you’re in Indonesia and are wanting to get the OPPO Joy as a secondary handset, do shout it out to us in the comments below.
