Rejoice! Android 4.4.2 KitKat Now Available on Verizon LG G2 via Verizon Update Software

When Android 4.4 KitKat was announced at the end of October last year, we were left with the usual wondering about when each OEM would push it out to their phones.  Motorola surprised us by getting KitKat on the Moto X just days after the announcement, and LG was one of the quickest ones as well pushing out KitKat for the G2 in Korea, and shortly there after the international version received the update.  US carriers were a little behind that as usual, but T-Mobile and AT&T pushed the update out not too long after that, and poor Verizon customers have been waiting for the update ever since.  Thankfully that update is finally available today, but there’s a little catch to that.  Instead of the usual over the air update that is done to push major updates out to phones, the update is only available on Verizon’s update software, although the over the air update will indeed be pushed out at some point.

If you don’t want to wait until then following these easy steps.  First grab your phone’s USB cable, attach it to your phone and attach the other end to a computer.  When the auto-run prompt pops up click on the “Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant Tool” option, and you’ll see the screenshot below.  Follow the prompts and you’ll have the official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update on your Verizon branded LG G2 in no time.  It’s a large update so if you’ve got a slow Internet connection make sure to give yourself enough time to both download and install it.  Wondering exactly what KitKat will bring to your G2?  While the LG G2 was already one of the fastest phones on the market it’s gotten even snappier with KitKat, as evidenced in this head to head comparison.  If you’re looking for the direct KDZ file you can find it on LG’s support site right here.
