ZTE Redbull with LTE Launches in China for $135, Offers High-End Specs At a Low Price Point

Competition amongst the Chinese vendors is heating up. Xiaomi had been the one to heat up the mobile devices space in China with the launch of their Redmi Note, however it seems ZTE has big plans of its own. Launching today is the 4G LTE bearing ZTE Redbull, which offers high-end specs at a very surprising and yet low price point. It is definitely old news that competition amongst the Chinese manufacturers has been the driving force for innovation. The market for these devices in the Asian countries is much larger than that of the US and Europe combined. As a result we see many devices which are designed for and complete their life-cycle without stepping foot into the western world. The latest flagship from ZTE – the ZTE Redbull – appears to be one such device, which was designed for the Chinese markets.

In terms of specifications, the ZTE Redbull doesn’t disappoint either. The device boasts of a 5 inch 720p display, with capacitative light-up buttons and a ‘halo’ home button. The device is powered by a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor (either the MSM8926 or the MSM8928 chipset), a 5 mega pixel front facing camera for Selfies and the occasional video call. The primary camera is a 13 mega-pixels Sony CMOS lens with an F2.2 aperture. The rear camera is protected by the tough sapphire glass, which should add an additional layer to protection. The best aspect is the 2400 mAh removable battery, as well as dual SIM capabilities. The device will be available in two variants – the ‘Youth’ variant which brings along 1 GB RAM and 4 GB of internal storage, whereas the ‘Energy’ variant has 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. The storage for both devices can be expanded thanks to the inbuilt MicroSD card slot.

ZTE has targeted the youth segment with the RedBull series, as a result the device will be launched in up to five color options – White, Lime Green, Sea Blue, Lolita Pink and Primrose Yellow. Though the device is set to launch in China today itself for 700 Yuan (~$113)  for the Youth variant and 900 Yuan (~$135) for the Energy variant, there is no information as of yet whether we would see this device in the western world or it’ll become one of those myriad devices which live and die in the Eastern parts of the world.
