ASUS to Announce New, More Colorful Fonepad at Computex 2014?

ASUS has been well known in the tablet market for producing quality stuff for a while now and the Fonepad line has been something of a quiet success for the company. Combining a 7-inch tablet form factor with smartphone use, the Fonepad 7 offers users the need for one device while getting the benefits from both. Of course, this isn’t for everyone, but with more and more people in Asia flocking to larger displays, ASUS’s idea suddenly doesn’t seem all that crazy. Now, it’s thought that the Taiwanese company is ready to announce a new version of the Fonepad at Computex 2014.

An unannounced version of the Fonepad 7 has been found languishing on ASUS’ own US website no less and features a different design from previous generations of the device. The device looks a lot more colorful than previous versions and seems poised to appeal to those not looking to spend oodles on a new phone or tablet. With a dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 and a 1024 x 600 7-inch display, this isn’t going to blow anyone away, but they’d be decent specs for a budget tablet that was also a smartphone. The spec sheet is laid bare for all to see on ASUS’ website and tell of a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera and just 4GB internal storage, but there is room for microSD cards.

It looks like this unannounced product is to appeal to the masses, with numerous colors on offer as well as a new type of case dubbed the MagSmart. It’s essentially a type of flip cover that uses a magnet to stay fixed to your device and presumably wakes the Fonepad up as well. There’s more info at the source link, and we’re still waiting for ASUS to officially announce the device. We’re thinking that Computex 2014 is to be where ASUS launch this new product, which is about a month away and considering it looks like ASUS has everything worked out for the device, we should expect it to launh around the same sort of time as well.
