Seems like no matter what, T-Mobile is going to be sold to someone. Dish has been looking to get into the wireless game for quite some time. They attempted to buy Sprint, but obviously Softbank outbid them. And now they are looking at T-Mobile, but that’s only if Sprint fails to buy the fourth largest carrier. Dish has said that they don’t have the money to outbid Softbank/Sprint for T-Mobile so they are just going to see what happens. They are also looking at Direc-TV, which AT&T is supposedly trying to buy. And again, they know that they can’t compete with AT&T’s checkbook so they are in a wait and see ship right now.
What’s interesting here is that Sprint is supposedly going to offer $29 billion to buy out Deutsche Telekom’s controlling stake in T-Mobile US, but if that fails what will Dish do? They obviously can’t afford the $29 billion. So perhaps they are hoping that the market cap will drop from a failed acquisition? Who knows what Ergen’s thoughts are at this point. But we do know that he still wants to get into the wireless game. He has been trying to get in there for quite some time. And Dish isn’t just trying to get into wireless, they actually have some decent spectrum already. Which T-Mobile could definitely use in their network.
Right now, I’m still not positive that a Sprint/T-Mobile merger is going to go through. But as customers, we are also in a wait and see situation. As we can’t really do much just yet about this merger. Seeing as Softbank/Sprint hasn’t really confirmed they are buying T-Mobile, nor has an offer been made just yet. Does anyone else think this deal would go through? Would you be happier with a Dish/T-Mobile merger? Let us know in the comments below.
