Google Opens Glass Explorer Program To Golfers And Event Goers At Players Championship

Google has always been open to trying out new ways to approach the Google Glass explorer program. What started out as an opportunity only for those who attended 2012’s Google I/O event, transformed into something that would open up to many more people over the years leading up to now, through invites that were on a random basis hand picked by Google, to those that subscribed to Google Play Music All Access, and eventually one of the most recent offerings which opened up the opportunity to anyone for one day only last month on April 15th. As Google has stated in the past, they’re always testing new ways to expand the Explorer program. This has apparently become all too true as they have set up shop at the Players Championship Golf Tournament today.

The Sales booth which is said to be Google’s first ever public sales display, was spotted by an individual at the tournament named Richard Ranick, who promptly took a picture and tweeted it, and then sent in the tip to Business Insider that Google was at the event. This is most likely not going to be the last and only public sales display that we see for Google Glass, even if it was the first. It was pointed out that Google even had some tricks up their sleeves to entice event goers to purchase Google Glass this week. If you ended up actually buying Glass at the event Google would end up giving those who purchased a set of the wearable tech specs a mini camera attachment for their golf clubs. I don’t play golf, but if I did I would sure want one of those camera accessories for some sweet action shots.

Google re-iterated how they want to keep adding as many new Explorers to the open beta program as they can, so that they might help make Google Glass even better for when it becomes ready for a more wide consumer launch. Yesterday they took to Google+, and mentioned that in the coming weeks and months they would be testing even more new ways to bring the Glass explorer program to more users. They hint at offering up the opportunity for Glass to sports lovers, cooks, travelers, and online retailers, so we wonder what Google has planned for the next chapter of the Glass explorer program.
