We might finally be getting the HTC Desire 816 here in the U.S. in the form of a Sprint variant. A device that looks like the Desire 816 passed through the FCC recently with CDMA radios and support for LTE bands 25, 26, and 41. These are LTE bands are compatible with Sprint. The shape of the device, the buttons and ports on it, all point to a Desire 816 for Sprint. There’s even a model number listed, the 0P9C300. There’s no guarantee that this is the Desire 816, or that the device is going to end up on Sprint at all, but the signs point to that happening.
The Desire 816 is has mid-range specs but is packed full of HTC features. It has a 5.5-inch, 720p display and comes in several colors including white, red, black, and green. It’s running on quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC, has 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. Thankfully, the Desire 816 supports a microSD card for up to an additional 128GB of storage. It supports LTE connectivity and has a 2,600 mAh battery. Unlike the HTC One (M8), the Desire 816 has a 13-megapixel rear camera, and has the same 5-megapixel shooter on the front that that M8 has. The back looks glossy and plastic, but this is a great middle of the road device.
The smartphone is running Sense 6 and has HTC’s extra software features like BlinkFeed and Zoe. HTC did well with the Desire 816. The device is selling very well overseas. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen it here in the U.S. until now. If the 0P9C300 really is the Desire 816 for Sprint, it’ll be the first we’ve seen of this phone here. HTC did confirm that they would be selling the phone in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. If you’re in the market for a low-cost smartphone that has a ton of features, you might want to keep your eye out for the Desire 816. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more about it.
