ASUS has a new tablet powered by an Intel chip on the way that will reportedly be costing just $150 at the time of launch. The upcoming ASUS MeMO Pad ME176C will be housing an Intel Atom Z3745 Bay Trail chip inside, quad-core, and clocked at 1.33 GHz. This new tablet also comes with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, so its starting to shape up to be a fairly decent setup for the small amount you’d pay compared to other tablets. With a screen size of 7-inches and a pixel resolution of 1,280 x 800, this low cost device should see quite a bit of popularity from those who are looking for a good low budget tablet as opposed to perhaps the next Nexus tablet for example.
Other specs for the new MeMO Pad include the IPS display type, and a microSD card slot if you need even more space on top of the internal storage that’s already there. There will be an 8GB model also available for a presumably cheaper price. The tablet is equipped with both front and back cameras but with it being a low cost device don’t expect to get the most exceptional images out of them. At 5MP on the rear however the picture quality will do just fine if you only have your tablet on you and need to take a quick shot. The front facing camera comes in at 2MP for those impromptu selfies or video chat sessions with your buddies or parents back home. The tablet supports wifi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS, and power wise the battery will be able to provide 3,910 mAh of life. That should be most of the day with some left to spare by the time you’d get home and plug it in, and that’s assuming you’d be using it constantly throughout the day as well.
It’ll come running Android 4.4 Kit Kat out of the box and sports ASUS ZenUI, very similar to what you might see on the line of Zen Phones from them this year or the ASUS PadFone line of devices. Wondering when you might be able to pick one of these up and where? For the moment those details aren’t available and there’s no confirmation on whether the $149 price tag is referring to the 8GB or the 16GB model, but more information about the new MeMO Pad should surface in the near future.
