Motorola has been very busy lately attending to their entry-level smartphone line, and why not – the Moto G released in November 2013 to great reviews (for its price range) and has quickly become their best-selling smartphone in Motorola history. It rather bridged the gap between the old full-featured phone and smartphone category, offering unheard of value for the money – the only real place it was lacking was in its 3G only capabilities. However, as 4G LTE starts to expand at a rapid rate, even in those emerging markets, Motorola added a 4G LTE capable Moto G to their fold – which can do nothing but expand its sales even more. Speaking of expanding, Motorola also added a microSD slot on the Moto G 4G as a way to expand the 8GB of internal storage.
The addition of LTE just allowed it to expand even more into the Canadian market – where 150,000 HSPA devices have already been sold – and onto the Rogers and Fido networks where it will sell the 8GB smartphone for $224.99 outright on both carriers. At Rogers it will cost you $0 on a two-year contract and at Fido it will cost you $50 on their Standard Plan and $0 on their Smart Plan. The Moto G 4G, as they are calling it, will available in the upcoming weeks on both carriers.
To make matters even better, there will be a 16GB HSPA+ version of the Moto G available at Staples starting in June. It will be an unlocked version and will sell for $249 with no contract. There is no word if Staples will eventually get the Moto G 4G in-stock as well.
This Moto G 4G model will sport the same specs as the original which means you will get a 4.5-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage – however, the 4G model will also have the microSD slot for expanding that 8GBs. The main camera is 5MP with LED Flash and the front-facing camera is 1.3MP for video chatting and taking selfies – not exciting, certainly on par with its price tag. It comes with the latest Android 4.4 KitKat in almost pure form and Motorola has shown it to be on top of things when pushing out the new upgrades.
Please let us know on our Google+ Page if the Moto G is a device that you will be picking up…as always, we would love to hear from you.
