Qualcomm's Next Toq Smartwatch Update Brings With It Voice To Text by Nuance

What’s been missing from your Qualcomm Toq Smartwatch experience? Apparently Qualcomm thinks the answer to that question is voice enable commands. Yes, soon Qualcomm Toq owners will be able to speak to their smartwatches and have it do things for them. Of course we’re still a long way off from when you can tell your watch to make you coffee and in 5 minutes have a nicely fresh brewed cup of joe, but this is a start. The voice controlled features and actions coming to the Toq are powered by Nuance communications, and even they I don’t personally own a Toq its still fun to say the name that Qualcomm has come up with to call this feature. Toq Talk, as it’ll be known hence forth will soon be making its way into the wrist worn smart devices of all who are proud to call themselves Toqers. Toqees? It’s still being voted on but those seem like the best terms. Why should Glass explorers get all the fun names hmmm?

While this is definitely an exciting moment for those of you that own the Qualcomm Toq, the sad part is that for now Toq Talk will only work with SMS messages. That’s not a bad start, but we know some of you may have been hoping for more. Perhaps it’s coming in the future. With that said, once the update finishes on your Toq, you’ll see the addition of a new mic icon nestled in betwixt the message and call buttons after you read a message, which you can visualize once you watch the video below. It’s simple yet undeniably a very useful feature to have because let’s face it, you won’t always have your hands free to respond by typing back. Furthermore, the voice controlled responses for text messaging just seem like a more natural approach for a smartwatch. The screens are small and while I can’t speak to personal experience, it just seems like it would be a pain to type on a display of that size.

Are there any of you Toqees out there excited to apply this update to your very own watches? It certainly will make for a more futuristic feel to things.
