While this is literally a very minor setback, we’re sure that it will bring out the worst in some people whether they’re one of the “Smash the Past” contest winners or not. According to an individual who was one of the winners, they had recently received their contest device and it was without a few of the items needed to make the entire package a complete deal. The A/C wall adapter along with the USB cable and the SIM tool were apparently absent from the entire package that OnePlus had sent out to them. As many of you may already know, OnePlus held a contest for the chance to buy a OnePlus One for a mere $1, the catch was that you either had to smash your old phone or donate it to a charity that OnePlus had picked called Medic Mobile. The contest was kept rather small, and only allowed for 100 lucky winners to have the opportunity to pick up one of the 16GB silk white handsets.
Through out OnePlus short lifespan so far there have been somewhat mixed reactions to many of the companies actions. The scrutiny from things like the contest to OnePlus use of the ad campaigns that openly mocked or teased other handsets was one thing that some found to be distasteful(although we thought it was rather funny), others have been less than happy about the lack of stock that OnePlus will have on hand and ready for purchase soon. Soon is the keyword as many thought that the OnePlus One would be ready to go and made available almost immediately after its announcement, but sadly we’re still having to wait a little while before most of us will have the opportunity to pick up one of the handsets for ourselves. That’s OK though, because it’ll be worth it.
Even though it might seem a tad bit annoying that OnePlus didn’t send some of the key tools for the phone, it merely comes down to a mix of not wanting to keep the contest winners waiting for their devices to get shipped out and come through, and not having the other items ready in time to ship out with the handset itself. Since the items left out won’t make the phone unusable people shouldn’t be too put out. You can simply use a paper clip to pop the SIM tray out and most or everyone should have a standard micro USB cable on hand to keep the phone charged. OnePlus had stated that they’re sorry for the inconvenience and that the missed items will be on their way out as soon as possible and that things should be heading out to the winners by the end of the month. So that’s only a couple of weeks roughly.
