The Sony SmartBand is already available at Rogers and in the Sony Store for $100, and it was only a matter of time as other carriers jumped on the Sony ‘band’ wagon and Bell has just announced today that it would be “coming soon.” This will add to the wearables that Bell already has in their lineup – the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2, Gear Fit, and Sony SmartWatch 2 (SW2). The Sony SmartBand is more like the Gear Fit…a type of fitness tracker, which because their lower cost than a ‘watch’ have become the latest rage for runners or people that go to the gym to workout.
The SmartBand is designed to be worn all of the time – to track your every move – and because it is waterproof, keep it on when either swimming or taking a shower. The SmartBand is actually two pieces – the outer band and the “Core” that is a small sensor that pops into the band – and together they will communicate via Bluetooth to your mobile smartphone or tablet to an app called Lifelog.
The Lifelog app uses the data from the Core that it has collected throughout the day and uses graphs, and even a running “person” to show all of your activities throughout the day…even sleep patterns. If you are listening to some particular music during the day when you are running, you simply press the side button twice and it will ‘bookmark” that moment in time and you can go back a “see” what you were doing at that particular time. It tracks fitness, location, weather, photos, music, personal notes, and more and Lifelog is a colorful and fun way to view those daily activities.
Besides tracking the usual walking, running and sleep motion activity, SmartBand will also work in conjunction with your smartphone – smart alarms, vibration notifications for calls and messages, calendar events and more. While listening to music on your smartphone, you can play, pause, and skip a track, all by a combination of presses on the button on your SmartBand.
Not only does the SmartBand track your fitness activities, it can also be a useful companion to your smartphone as well, a kind of “two-in-one” device. If you are interested in keeping a daily journal of your day, then the Sony SmartBand maybe just the device for you. Sony also offers other options for the Core – you can wear it as a necklace or even a tie clip. The SmartBand is compatible with any NFC-enabled Android device running OS 4.4 or higher.
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if the Sony SmartBand would be a device that would interest you – with a reasonable price and the graphic display of its companion Lifelog App, and Bluetooth or NFC capability – it could be just what you are looking for…as always, we would love to hear from you.
