The factory images and binaries for the update to Android 4.4.3 hit the web yesterday and we have been seeing a few new changes since then. For those that were eager and weren’t afraid to flash the factory images that Google uploaded yesterday, you already know about these minor tweaks like the new dialer and the design changes to the contacts app and some color tweaks to both those apps. At least for the 2013 Nexus 7 wifi model the OTA has started to hit devices, but even more surprising might be the fact that some Google Play Edition devices are already beginning to receive their over the air updates to Android 4.4.3 as well. At least one individual on my personal feed has gotten the update to Android 4.4.3 on his GPe Galaxy S4 earlier this morning, and now sources of Droid Life are reporting the same.
The GPe Gs4 isn’t the only one reportedly getting the update either, apparently the GPe HTC One M7 and M8 devices are getting them as well. This doesn’t meant that everyone using any of these devices will get the update today, but with the software already beginning to roll out to those devices it certainly means that it isn’t too far off from coming in to those who are using a GPe model of those phones. The only thing that’s surprising to see the update coming to GPe phones though is that it is a mere day after the first Nexus device was reported to begin receiving it, but GPe devices are running stock Android after all so they have always had the promise of getting updates quickly just like the Nexus line.
Along with the few minor design changes to some of the apps that we already know about, the bug fixes we’ve been told that this update is mostly about will be coming in as well to those running any of these three GPe devices. There isn’t much else to tell about the changes until we see a changelog. How long will it be before the Xperia Z Ultra GPe gets the update? If you use a GPe model phone are you seeing this update pop up in your status tray just yet?
