Leaks are springing up all over the place about Huawei’s next new flagship device, which will replace the Huawei Honor 3X and Honor 3C – originally dubbed the Huawei Mulan – will actually be named the Honor 6…and the latest teaser from Huawei has confirmed this news. The teaser – with a large ‘6’ on it, also confirmed that it would be unveiled at an event scheduled on June 24 at the Beijing National Stadium…also known as the Bird Nest. Reports from China also revealed that it was being called the Honor 6 to keep up with some other new smartphones, such as the iPhone 6, coming out this Fall and Samsung’s next Galaxy S6, which will not be released until next Spring. If you recall, the Ascend devices were named P1 and P2, however, the third one is named the Ascend P6.
According sources and the AnTuTu benchmark site, we have an idea of some of the Honor 6’s specifications. We are looking at a 5-inch Full HD display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Running the show is Huawei’s own Hisilicon Kirn 920 octa-core processor, using the big.LITTLE ARM architecture – meaning that only four cores are running at one time and that one set does the everyday work and the other set does the intense processing, such as graphic, gaming or multitasking. The GPU used in this chipset is the Mali T628. It must also be noted that the Kirn 920 can support display resolutions higher than 2560 x 1440, so it is very possible a QHD display can be used on this device as well.
The Huawei Honor 6 should also be sporting 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage as well as a 13MP main camera and some rumors have a 5.1MP front-facing camera for video chatting and selfie shots. It should be running Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box with Huawei’s Emotion 2.3 on top. There was also a mention of a fingerprint scanner and possible metal casing. We will just have to wait until June 24 to find out and nail down specifics – but at the rate the leaks are sprouting up, we may know well in advance of the unveiling.
