Android has been the focus of this year’s Google I/O keynote and Android Wear took up a huge portion of that. We all knew that Google was going to give Android Wear some serious attention, after all it is a major product category for Google to get into and it also gives their partners an excellent platform to work with when creating their own smartwatches. Onstage, Android Wear was demonstrated with some pretty compelling abilities. Along side the Android Wear features that were announced during SXSW earlier this year, apps for Android Wear were shown off onstage, and they had some pretty powerful implications, like the ability to navigate to something right there from your watch, perfect for when you’re on foot.
To end the keynote today, Sundar Pichai, head of Chrome and Android let out a little surprise. Not only was the G Watch being given out to attendees at Google I/O, but was to go on sale later on today, directly from the Play Store. That wasn’t too surprising though, as the G Watch has been on the cards for some time now. More surprising however, was the giving away of Samsung’s Gear Live, their first Android Wear device, and the fact that it too will be available later on today.
