LG is not Making the Nexus 6, According to a Report

As most of you know, HTC made the very first Android phone with Google, the G1, as well as the HTC Nexus One. Next up was Samsung with the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. Then LG took over the Nexus program with the Nexus 4, and Nexus 5. Now it looks like the torch is being passed on to another company, as it appears that LG is not making the Nexus 6 this year. Although we have also heard plenty of rumors of there not being a Nexus 6 this year. When a manufacturer gets to make the Nexus device, they start to become big. I mean Samsung wasn’t really big in Android until they made the Nexus S. LG was also a very small player in Android before the Nexus 4. A lot of people would think “LG who?” and now they have one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2014 that no one outside of Korea can get their hands on. So the Nexus program does really help OEMs, even if they don’t make a killing from it.

In this new report, a blog in the Netherlands who spoke with LG’s head of communications Ken Hong, on the Nexus 6, “I know at least not yet. Normally, we were informed. That can mean two things. Either, I was ignored, or we do not make it.” Which is interesting, because here we sit at June, and if LG was going to make the Nexus 6, you’d think Google would have told them already so they can get going on finalizing the device and start mass producing it so it’s available in October when Google normally unveils it with a new version of Android. So this could mean two things, there’s no Nexus 6, or LG is just not making the Nexus this year. Which is fine, they got the reference Android Wear device, the LG G Watch, which we’ll see at Google I/O next week.
