NVIDIA Shield Tablet Appears On The TegraZone Webpage But Disappears Shortly After

NVIDIA’s rumored Shield tablet has been spotted on their TegraZone website, further adding to the rumors that the company is preparing to release a companion tablet to its Shield gaming handheld device.

The Shield tablet was spotted by The Digital Reader, a site that covers tablets and e-readers. The Shield tablet page doesn’t provide any details at all about the device itself. It appears to be a placeholder with just the name and a QR code next to it. If you scan the QR code, it just takes you to the NVIDIA store where you can purchase a Shield handheld unit. The Shield tablet page is also in the Games section of the TegraZone site. It’s not listed in the devices portion of the site. The page also has a list of obvious keywords like “SHIELD Tablet”, SHIELD Tablet android”, and “SHIELD Tablet tegra” but this is what we’d expect to see on a site like this.

The NVIDIA Shield tablet is rumored to be running on the new Tegra K1 chipset that also powers the new Google Project Tango tablet and Xiaomi’s MiPad. The Tegra K1 is the latest, most powerful chip that the company has ever produced. We don’t know anything else about the Shield tablet except that it’s now appeared on the TegraZone site.

The NVIDIA’s Shield handheld gaming unit runs on a Tegra 4 chipset. It has a 5-inch display with high quality graphics, and it was updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat back in April. NVIDIA has been struggling to get their Tegra chips new devices recently, but they are still developing and pushing the Shield gaming unit. Now it appears that we’re going to see a Shield tablet to stand side by side with the handheld device and run games with good graphics. OEMs have been opting for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors, and Samsung uses its own Exynos chips in their devices in overseas markets. MediaTek has been creeping in with their low-cost chips, too. NVIDIA is in a tough spot, but they’re pushing the Shield platform. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything else about this new tablet.
