Early this month Sony took a page out of the Samsung book and leaked a teaser for ‘the next big thing’…everybody thought it was referring to the new Xperia Z Ultra 2, but it appears it was really about its upcoming Xperia Z3 and possibly Xperia Z3 Compact. It does seem a bit strange to be getting ready to launch the Xperia Z3 when we are barely getting our hands on the Xperia Z2! But that is Sony’s way of doing smartphones, which is why they will never become a major player if they do not start getting their smartphones in the hands of the consumer.
According to our source, these couple of pictures that were leaked comes from Digi-wo, which has usually been spot on when it comes to leaking Sony devices. It appears to be very fingerprint smudgy pictures of a white Xperia Z3 and a black Xperia Z3 Compact – it may just be pictures of the front casings, not the completed smartphone at all. The pictures seem to indicate that Sony is following their OmniBalance design – nothing revolutionary here. Hopefully, there will be more leaks coming soon, but you would think that Sonny would want people to purchase their Xperia Z2, and not be distracted by a Z3 model that will, most likely, take months to get here. We would expect at this point that there will be an official announcement at IFA in Berlin this September.
We do know that Sony’s Creative Director Kurozumi Yoshiro does believe in this competitive environment that Sony needs to update their devices every six months – nice idea, but the only problem is they make it so difficult to buy their products. The other word on the street is that there will be no Snapdragon 805 processor – and if that is the case, what incentive would there be for a Xperia Z2 owner to want to upgrade? It will be interesting to see how this story unfolds as we wait for more leaks. Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think about Sony smartphones in general – they just seem like a lot of money and a difficult device to find and purchase – makes me wonder how they would sell if they were available on all major U.S. networks at the same time…as always, we would love to hear from you.
