Sprint Will Connect 50,000 Students With Home Broadband Internet

Having the right educational resources gives young growing minds the reach to learn and expand their knowledge in school. With the help of the US department of Education, Sprint is contributing to ConnectEd program. The program is a collaborative effort designed to reduce the digital divide among students across the US. This initiative made by Sprint will connect well over 50,000 students with high-speed broadband internet. With the help of ConnectEd, students can engage in harder courses, obtain more learning resources, and instructions in any foreign language. Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint said, “Sprint is honored to be a part of this dynamic White House program,” He later added “This initiative will build on the efforts of today’s most innovative tech companies to help make our nation’s children better students, problem solvers, creative thinkers, and future leaders, while also training teachers to effectively use mobile technologies to improve student outcomes and prepare them for a competitive workforce.”

Select schools can sign up for the program and have it ready by the start of the 2014 school year in August. The program is a four year commitment for approved schools. To get approved, schools must have a digital learning program and availability of Sprint Spark services in their area. The service will provide wireless broadband connectivity for 50,000 low-income K-12 students across the U.S. Schools that get chosen must purchase mobile broadband devices from the carrier. These broadband devices give the students 3 gigabytes per month. With the connectivity, students will now be able to become better students and have the right educational resources that will help them beyond the classroom and into post secondary schools.

Masayoshi Son, chairman of Sprint and CEO and chairman of SoftBank Corp., implied “We are incredibly proud to be part of the team that is bringing innovative technology solutions to the U.S. education sector. ConnectED’s commitment to bringing high-speed Internet to America’s students is a clear fit with SoftBank’s mission to help people around the world improve their lives through increased access to information. We are passionate about delivering next-generation wireless Internet to U.S. consumers, and this partnership demonstrates our commitment to making this happen for all.” Sprints effort and initiative with todays education is a huge help to the changing learning curriculum. We have come a long way since the notebook and pencil; we also have a bright technological future ahead of us.
