Android Wear How To: Enter Recovery Mode on the LG G Watch

It’s not always going to be plain sailing and clear skies with technology, and judging by how sophisticated things have gotten now there’s even more room for error than there ever has been. Just like Android smartphones, Android Wear devices have a recovery mode installed, perfect for those times you need to find your way back to stock, or if you need to apply an update manually. It’s a little fiddly to do on the G Watch, but it’s not really that difficult if you take your time and you know what you’re doing. We’re here to tell you what to do and this How To will take you through putting your G Watch into Recovery mode.

First of all, you’ll need to find something thin and pointy. A ballpoint pen is far too thick, so think more paperclip, I personally used the SIM ejector tool from my Nexus 5, and one from any phone like the HTC One or similar should work great here, too. You need to push the reset pin found on the back of the G Watch for around 10 seconds or so. It’s more of a button than anything else, and it’s picture below for you, just after the pogo pins for charging. If your device shuts off and goes blank when pressing this, don’t worry. Just press it in and hold it one more time. What we’re looking for is the LG logo.

When we see the LG logo on screen, we need to swipe from the top left-hand corner to the the bottom right-hand corner in one, diagonal swipe. This should bring us to the Fastboot mode (which has your serial number and other such info, too) of the watch. At the bottom of this display, you’ll see two arrows and a circle in the middle. Pressing the arrows will adjust the listing in red text towards the center of the display. Pressing the right arrow twice will bring the Recovery list up, after that, just hit the circle button.

Once you’ve done that, all you need to do is wait and you’ll see a familiar menu to that of an Android smartphone. If you just wanted to take a looksee and you don’t want to do anything, you can go ahead and reboot as normal. Otherwise, you can use this to factory reset your device and sideload updates if you need to. For now, this is just a quick How To on actually getting to the Recovery Mode and we’re sure in time this will become useful for modding and those looking to run custom ROMs.
