This morning, NVIDIA made their Shield Tablet official, and with that name. Pre-orders are beginning today, with them being available next week. July 29th in the US and Canada. So now it’s time to check out the full specs for this beast of a tablet. As far as the display goes, we’re looking at an 8-inch 1920×1200 resolution IPS LCD display. Powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor which is a quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz. There’s also 2GB of RAM inside, as well as 16GB of storage for the WiFi model and the LTE model gets 32GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot inside that supports up to 128GB of storage.
We’re also looking at a 5MP camera on the front and a 5MP camera on the back. As for WiFi we’ve got 802.11 a/b/g/n, along with Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS and GLONASS. As for dimensions 221 x 126 x 9.2 mm, and it weighs in at about 390 grams. NVIDIA has a 19.75 Wh battery inside, but does state that it should last through about 10 hours of HD video. It also comes with a stylus, DirectStylus 2 with 3D Paint. And a 9-axis g sensor, accelerometer, and compass.
As far as the bands go for the US we’re looking at LTE: Bands 2,4,5,7,17 (1900, 1700, 850, 2600, 700), HSPA+: Bands 1,2,4,5 (2100, 1900, 1700, 850), which are Compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile. And for the rest of the world LTE: Bands 1,3,7,20 (2100, 1800, 2600, 800), HSPA+: Bands 1,2,5,8 (2100, 1900, 850, 900).
So it does have some pretty decent specs, although the surprise for me is in the LTE bands. I was kind of expecting them to support Verizon’s bands as well. Since most tablets do these days, even Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets. I’m sure we’ll see Verizon pick up the NVIDIA Shield Tablet soon though, if they think they can sell a decent amount of them.
