In today’s world, smartphones go through a lot of pain due to mother nature and us simply being clumsy. We have all been there when our phone accidently drops into a puddle or if you are like me — examining your phone a lot for marks and scratches, noticing the dust in cracks and crevices. Dust isn’t the issue, although it can possibly bog a device down if it gets inside, water can cause some serious damages. Earlier this year, Sony announced to us a new mid-range smartphone with a 4.8 inch screen and LTE connectivity dubbed the Xperia M2.
Now word on the street is that Sony will soon be releasing a new device that is a slightly upgraded version of the M2. The news comes from phoneArena, who was digging through the FCC database and came upon a couple Sony handsets with the model names PM-0770 and PM-0771. As it turns out, what they came across is that Sony will soon unveil a device called the Xperia M2 Aqua.
Apparently, the two model numbers found on the FCC database are just variants of the Xperia M2. The only difference about these devices is what’s in the name, which is Aqua. Judging by name, these two models are more than likely waterproof, unlike the original Xperia M2. Both of these models feature the smartphone standards which are Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, ANT+, NFC, and GPS capability. Whats really cool about the unannounced devices is that they feature an FM radio. Now it is said that the M2 aqua has LTE capability, the only thing is that the devices have different LTE bands. The PM-0770 has LTE bands ranging from 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 20 while the PM-0771 has the ability to only run on bands 2, 4, 7, and 17. Judging from differentiated LTE bands, the specs on both models may be different as well.
Unfortunately, specifications for the two model numbers found in the FCC’s database are currently unavailable. Since the phones are just slightly different versions of the original Xperia M2, specs might be the same. Fow now, this is all the information we have about the two devices.
