We’ve been hearing about it for quite some time and now, the Mi4 is ready for the primetime, with the Chinese giant officially announcing their latest and greatest Mi-phone yet. It’s got all of the specs and a fresh new build quality that will appeal to those looking for something premium. Xiaomi launched the Mi4 earlier today in Beijing and boy, is it one hell of a smartphone. The company is known for delivering the very best in their Mi line of devices and the Mi4 is no different, but what makes it so special?
Starting with the internals, we’re looking at a device with a quad-core Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5 Ghz with 3GB of RAM and Xiaomi are calling this the fastest smartphone ever, but of course that’s what they all say these days, right? When announcing the device, the company tried their best to emphasize the balance between performance and battery life, and with a 3,080 mAh battery under the hood Xiaomi is claiming a full day and a half of “regular” use from the Mi4. Still, if things run out sooner than expected, the Mi4 can charge quickly through 9V at 1.2A or 5V at 2.0A. While there’s no QHD display here, the company have tried to deliver on quality rather than quantity and the 5-inch Full HD display here has 84% of the NTSC color range and should help keep the Mi4 a familiar size to Mi3 owners. Onto imaging, and the Mi4 features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with an f/1.8 lens and real-time HDR as well as 4K video recording. Around the front and Xiaomi have managed to squeeze in an 8-megapixel, 80-degree wide-angle shooter, something you don’t see every day on a smartphone like this.
The Mi4 will be available in 16, 32 or 64GB storage options and it’ll feature support for WCDMA, TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE support networks, with different variants being available where needed. The device is built using a stainless steel frame and will no doubt be available in a range of colors, but the Mi4 is also joining the ranks of Chinese manufacturers that are offering wooden back covers and there will be 12 different variations available, all of which look pretty stunning to our eyes. There’s no word on how much the Mi4 is going to cost when it hits shelves just yet, but we’re sure that Xiaomi will want to deliver the best price that they can.
