General Motors Is Testing Google Glass On Their Facility Floors

From hitting the red carpet at fashion week, to exploring the world on an explorers head, Google Glass has been trying to find its need in the world. While the device seems like it doesn’t have any use for consumers yet, Glass may serve well in the industrial world. So how can Google Glass take part in the industrial world? Well a new report from Mlive explains to us about a household name that has been testing three pairs of Google Glasses, and you might actually be surprised as to who it is.

Believe it or not, car manufacturer General Motors has been testing out Google Glass on the factory floor. The company wants to find out if Google Glass can help out by enhancing the manufacturing process of cars. Reported by Michael Wayland, “GM workers at the Detroit-based automaker’s Orion Assembly and Warren Technical Center have been testing three pairs of the $1,500 products since late last year.” GM executives are not too sure on what to use Google Glass for. “We’re really just experimenting trying to find different uses for it,” said GM North America Manufacturing President Cathy Clegg. From the looks of everything, the testing that GM is conducting is to find out where they can use this piece of futuristic technology inside their plants. According to Mlive, over 100 employees at GM have tested out Google Glass on the facility floor.

With Google Glass basically being a computer that you wear on your face, the possibilities of GM finding a use for the technology are endless. According to Business Insider, the car maker may in fact create their own software for Google Glass to use on the production line. Its still unclear on what the company will do. GM may just keep testing the hardware until they can find a permanent or universal use for Google Glass. As Cathy Clegg puts it, “There are a lot of ideas.” While GM figures out what they are going to use Glass for, let us know your thoughts about their motives. Do you have any ideas of what GM should use Google Glass for? Sound off in the comments!
