HTC started a great smartphone line when they launched HTC One (M7) smartphone last year. The device both looked and functioned great, it offered a really good experience overall. HTC then decided to release a lower-specced HTC One Mini and that device was followed by the HTC One Max, which was HTC’s version of a phablet device. One Max was basically an overblown version of the HTC One Mini with HTC One’s (M7) specifications and a fingerprint scanner on the back. It seems like HTC is preparing something different for us this year as far as their phablet device goes.
According to a report from TK Tech News (their sources rather) the HTC One Max (M8) (also dubbed HTC One (M8) Prime) will sport a Snapdragon 805 chip and will keep the “One Max” brand. Note that HTC One (M8) has a Snapdragon 801 inside, so HTC’s flagship would actually be overpowered by their phablet. We’ve seen this happen already when the Note 3 was released and it shamed the Galaxy S5 when it comes to specifications. TK Tech also mentions that HTC One Max (M8) will look exactly like its smaller sibling, but in a phablet form of course. Fingerprint scanner should be out of the question this time around, for the better I guess, it didn’t exactly work as it should anyway.
Earlier report suggested that this device will sport a 5.5″ 2K display (2560 x 1440) and 3GB of RAM while the MDM9x35 modem from Qualcomm (download speeds up to 300 Mbps over LTE) should be used in the device as well. When it comes to cameras, the leak said that the main camera’s UltraPixel sensor will be bumped up from 4 to 5MP and that they’ll use an 18MP camera for depth perception. They also mentioned the Snapdragon 805 back then and today’s rumor also says that’ll be the case.
There’s no word on the release date though, hopefully we’ll get more information soon. Do you think this device can provide significant competition to the upcoming Galaxy Note 4?
