Xiaomi is all over the news lately. The China-based giant has recently released both its Xiaomi Mi4 flagship and a new iteration of their Android-based MIUI OS, version 6. Xiaomi Mi4 will be available in Q3 and is sporting a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 3GB of RAM and 16 or 64GB of internal storage without the ability to expand it via MicroSD card. Processor powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core chip clocked at 2.5GHz. On the back you’ll find a 13-megapixel camera, while there’s an 8-megapixel shooter on the front of the device among other specifications which you can find in an article linked above. On top of all that they plan on seriously expanding their business abroad (outside of China), they will expand in Brazil really soon along with 9 other countries. On top of all that they’re under an investigation for allegedly violating PDPC (Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission) rules.
Today we have some bad news for those of you who were purchasing Xiaomi phones internationally via Xiaomiworld. The Chinese reseller was contacted by Xiaomi’s global operations vice-president, Hugo Barra, himself and told to stop selling Xiaomi phones outside of China. They announced the news on their official Facebook page and asked all customers to buy Xiaomi phones from Xiaomi’s official stores until this matter is resolved, they even listed a bunch of them in their post. This is quite an interesting situation, we wonder if Xiaomi has told other resellers to do the same thing or is this a separate case and only Xiaomiworld is involved.
It seems Xiaomi is pulling all the right moves in order to appeal to customers considering their sales in China and some other markets. We actually think they’ll do rather well abroad considering they offer really powerful devices for significantly lower prices than their competition. Their MIUI 6 OS has been modernized with its flat design and all the bells and whistles you might want from an UI (though it won’t appeal to everyone). It remains to be seen how will they fair abroad and I’m rather interested in how will this Xiaomiworld situation unfold. Stay tuned, as soon as we get more information so will you.
