We all know that Samsung likes to flood the market with all sorts of Android devices. All sizes of screens, low-end, mid-range, and flagships. The Galaxy Note 4 is the next big thing that Samsung wants us all talking about, but they are also working some interesting things in the mid-range market. We’ve seen the Galaxy Mega 2 in leaked photos from China’s Certification Center, and now SamMobile has brought us some more interesting info about the upcoming Samsung monster.
The Galaxy Mega 2 is internally codenamed “Vasta”, and it has a model number of SM-G750F. It’s a global device, so there will be different variants for different regions. According the SamMobile, the European version is going to have a 5.99-inch display with a 1280 x 720 resolution. 720p isn’t bad, but it’s not going to look all that fantastic on a 6-inch screen. The display will be SuperAMOLED, and the interesting bit here is that the device will be powered by an as yet unannounced Exynos 4 SoC, the Exynos 4415. It’s supposedly a quad-core A9 CPU running at 1.4GHz. Samsung has been hard at work on new their Exynos chipsets, presumably to get out of Qualcomm’s shadow. The 4415 isn’t high end, but it’s one we haven’t heard of before.
The remaining specs include a Mali-400MP4 GPU, 2GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear facing camera, and 8GB of internal storage with microSD card support to expand your storage if you need. The Mega 2 isn’t going to have a heart rate monitor or fingerprint scanner, which makes sense because it’s not a flagship device. The device will have 802.11n Wi-Fi support, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and an IR blaster. SamMobile dove into the firmware that was leaked to them and confirmed the chipset and model number.
The Galaxy Mega 2 could make an appearance before the end of this year, but we don’t have a time table for its release. We also don’t have pricing, although it should be reasonably priced given the device’s specs. Does the Galaxy Mega 2 pique your interest?
