Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Going to TELUS in September

A “reliable tipster” from our source told them that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active would be headed to TELUS sometime next month – no word of if other carriers will get it, nor was there any mention of price as of yet.  It is an exclusive on AT&T in the U.S. so it is possible Samsung will go the same route in Canada with TELUS as the exclusive carrier…something I hate to see.  To me it cheats the users and other networks from enjoying the device as well – at the very least it lessens its sales

The Galaxy S5 Active is very similar to the regular Galaxy S5 that has the IP67 certification for water and dust resistance.  The rubber bumpers around the edges give it a rugged feel and added protection from falls and the physical buttons on the front are rigid and have a nice “clicky” feel to them.  The back looks like it is screwed in place, but that is only for looks as the back still comes off – just remember to get it fully snapped in place to keep it waterproof.  There is an additional key you can press called the “Active Key” that brings up the activity zone – and a long press on it will bring up the camera.  The Activity Zone has quick access to features an outdoorsperson would want – Barometer, Compass, Flashlight and a shortcut to S-Health, all on one screen.

As far as the other specs go – it has the same 5.1-inch FULL HD Super AMOLED display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.  It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz.  It comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with the addition of a microSD slot for adding up to 128GB – plenty of room to store your photos, videos and music.  The Galaxy S5 Active is sporting a 16MP main camera with autofocus and LED Flash and a 2MP front-facing camera (FFC) for video chatting and selfies.  It does have the Heart Rate Monitor but does not have the fingerprint scanner – the home button is missing on the Galaxy S5 Active.

It is not only IP67 certified and against dust and water up to 1 meter and 30 minutes, it also is MIL-STD-810G certified, which means it is resistant to salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistant.  It measures 145.3 x 73.4 x 8.9 mm and weighs in at 170.1 gram.
