Samsung Sent Their Galaxy NX Android/Camera Hybrid On An Exploration Rover

One of the many, many different products that Samsung produces is the Galaxy NX, a device that combined a camera with the power of Android, along with 3G/4G and WiFi connectivity. Earlier this year Samsung decided that it needed to show off its abilities to the world (well, Europe at least), and built the NX Rover, a small vehicle that was inspired by NASA’s Exploration Rover apparently. Instead of heading to far off planets, the sleek six-wheeled NX Rover was instead built around the Galaxy NX, serving to carry the hybrid camera around various points of interest in Europe.

Where did it go and what did it see? As you can see from the gallery and the video below, the NX Rover certainly got about, taking photographs where ever it showed up. From the set of the ¼ber popular Game of Thrones, to Germanys most famous football team, Bayern Munich, Rome, Iceland and even London’s Super Comic Con. Finally, it ended up in Cannes, where it was short-listed in the innovation category at the Cannes Lions in June this year. As the pictures show, people were more than happy to get their photos taken with the device. The NX Rover was tasked with taking photos on location and immediately sharing them via its cellular or WiFi connectivity. There are even more photos on its official site.

The Galaxy NX was a world first, and included such specifications as a 20.3MP sensor, 1/6000 sec shutter and 8.6fps shooting, with a Quad-Core CPU clocked at 1.6GHz and 2GB of RAM on multi-tasking duty. On the software side of things, it ran Android version 4.2 Jelly Bean, with preinstalled apps such as Samsung’s Story Album and S Voice amongst others, along with the usual array of Google applications. The NX sports a 4.8-inch HD TFT display, 16GB of internal storage and the ability to add to this via the built-in Micro-SD card slot. Naturally, being  a camera, there is a built-in flash that pops up when needed. Various lenses were made available for the Galaxy NX, including Fish-Eye, Zoom and Pancake Compact lenses. It’s currently selling for around $1,249 on Amazon.com. If you live in Europe, did you happen to see the NX Rover on its travels? Do you actually have a Galaxy NX?
