The numbers are in and the results will surprise you. For years Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin have been the top three social networks dominating social media. It may have seemed like their reign on top would be untouchable but according to a no infographic from Statista, a new competitor is on the rise. Who are we talking about here? Well none other than Snapchat. Keep in mind that this is the same company that turned down a $3 billion acquisition. Now, Snapchat is becoming a leading competitor when it comes to apps in social media.
The data comes from ComScore, Statista took that data and made a nice infographic for us to look at. The informations provided is a chart showing the most popular social media apps among Americans aged 18-43. Starting off the list at number one is of course facebook sitting at 75.7%. But trailing right under them is their own social platform Instagram which holds 43.1%. Now remember how for years its was just Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin? Well taking the number three spot is non other than Snapchat with 32.9%. Merely straddling along is Twitter which has about 23.8%. The change of the environment is unreal. Who knew that Snapchat would literally rise to the top from an audience of 12.1% back in November.
Other social media apps that were included on the list were Google, which has 18%, Pinterest which has 17.9%, Vine with 10.7%, and lastly, Tumblr, which only has 6.3%. Now these figure are for their social media apps, not the actual sites. The numbers can drastically change if we got data that looked at these sites from both an App and Desktop view. It’s still amazing to see how Snapchat grew and became one of the hottest apps to hit the market. I guess when they turned down that $3 billion dollar bid, the plans of growing and knocking out some heavyweight contenders were their plans all along. Snapchats explosion of popularity has really made them a force to be reckoned with. As Snapchat continues to stride to the top, let us know your thoughts the company and if you are an avid “Snapchatter.”
