Sony’s Xperia Z line is one of the more elegant smartphone brands out there. Some people dislike thick bezels Sony tends to include in their devices, others don’t care that much though. Different people have different tastes of course but Sony differentiates in a way and that makes them somewhat interesting. Speaking of which, Sony’s current Xperia Z2 flagship is a real beast as far as specifications go. Sporting 5.2″ 1080p Triluminos display, a Snapdragon 801 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 20.7MP camera and being IP58 certified (which makes it dust-proof and water-resistant over 1m deep and 30 minutes under water) make this device top of the class. In fact, when you look at it you’d think it doesn’t really need a refresh, at least not in the specification department. When it comes to the “Compact” version of Sony’s flagship, well… that’s an another story considering Sony didn’t even release Xperia Z2 Compact just yet (and probably won’t at all), even though Z1 Compact was basically Xperia Z1 in a smaller body which is a rarity these days.
We’ve seen a bunch of rumors when it comes to these 2 phones (Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact). Amongst them we’ve seen leaked specs of the Z3 device and both pictures and specifications of the Z3 Compact. Rumored specifications are really close to the current-gen Xperia Z2, too close even. On one hand it’s hard to believe those are true because of that fact, on the other hand Sony can’t exactly bump them up significantly considering Z2 is still a top of the line smartphone.
New information came our way in a form of CAD ( Computer-Aided Design) drawings. You can check out the images in a gallery below. Both Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact are featured in those drawings and they reveal dimensions for both handsets. Mentioned Xperia Z3 dimensions are 146.46 x 72.09 x 7.3, if they turn out to be true this device would be smaller than the Z2 in every way. Slightly less tall, slightly narrower and noticeably thinner (Z2 is 8.2mm thick). That’s actually really thin for a device which is probably going to be waterproof. Xperia Z3 Compact on the other hand (which is rumored to sport 4.6″ display) will according to this drawing have the following measurements: 129 x 64.9 x 8.8 mm. This of course makes it significantly smaller than Z3 except for the thickness. Compared to the Z1 Compact on the other hands, This device is slightly taller, equally wide and somewhat thinner.
No word on a release date just yet however, but we should get more information soon. Thoughts?
