A couple of months ago, T-Mobile introduced their simply starter plan. Which I felt was a good plan for, ya know, your parents and such. As it is unlimited talk and text, along with 500MB of data – after you use your data cap, data is turned off – priced at $40. Now T-Mobile has upped the data to 2GB for just $45. It’s still a pretty good plan in my opinion. It’s basically unlimited talk and text with 2GB of data for $45/month. Which isn’t bad at all, especially if you don’t use a lot of data. So for $5 more per month you are quadrupling the amount of data you have.
“People who use loads of data use T-Mobile,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “And it’s no wonder. The old guard telecoms punish people for using more data on their networks with crazy overage charges and fees. Get Verizon’s $50 plan and use just one gig more data, and the price jumps to $65. It’s crazy. At T-Mobile, we designed our network data-strong so our customers could use the hell out of it. And that’s just what they’re doing.”
John Legere is always talking about his data network, and rightfully so. They have really done a huge overhaul on their data network in the past couple of years. No doubt, thanks to the failed merger with AT&T. In a lot of areas, T-Mobile has the fastest speeds. But that’s also because there are less people using them. I’ve noticed as they add more and more customers, that speeds in my area have decreased. They are still the fastest, but not as fast as they used to be.
I’ll be switching over to this Simply Starter plan, as I use about 500MB to 1GB of data per month, so might as well save a few extra bucks, right? And as far as we can tell this isn’t a limited time offer. Which is even better news.
