It’s not that the new LG G Watch is new to Canada, as Canadians have been able to order the device in early July from Google Play and eventually from regional Quebec carrier, Videotron, for$249 (CND). TELUS has made getting the LG G Watch on their network a lot more affordable at $199.99 and no-charge for shipping – a pretty sweet deal for anybody looking to pick up the G Watch.
LG and Samsung jumped on the Android Wear bandwagon right after the operating system for wearables was announced at the Google I/O. The LG G Watch is plain and simple in design – a steel back and frame completely covered in a black polycarbonate top and sides. It has the IP67 rating for water and dust resistance and comes with a common size 22mm silicone-based strap for easy aftermarket replacement. The G Watch will work with ANY Android device running Android 4.3 or higher…so it will pair as well with a Samsung or HTC smartphone as it will with an LG device. The G Watch has a rectangular face with a 1.65-inch IPS LCD with a 280 x 280 display resolution. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of Storage powers it. The 400mAh battery adds the necessary juice for the ‘always-on’ mode and comes with a microUSB port for charging.
Two things to remember – the first is that Android Wear is in its infancy, although updates and Apps should be coming to you at a rapid rate – and secondly, understand that the LG G Watch is an extension of your smartphone, not a replacement. You will receive notifications from your smartphone on your watch, use Google Now and you can even answer the phone, but you will have to use the smartphone to do handle the actual phone call.
LG is also rumored to be coming out with a ’round’ version of the Android Wear variety, aptly named, G Watch R…why not just LG R Watch…so now it with be LG G Watch R – who is in LG’s ‘naming department?’ Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if you already have the G Watch, plan on getting one, waiting for the G Watch R or simply not interested in purchasing a smartwatch at this time…as always, we would love to hear from you.
