The Chromecast gets better and better, and as it continues to grow and gain more functionality and app compatibility it only moves further and further towards the front line as one of the leading tools for streaming content to the big screen. YouTube is probably one of the more popular apps for Chromecast streaming content, and while the app has had the capability to set up video playlist queues for the Chromecast for some time, Google has just announced that the YouTube website is getting the same treatment soon, and will allow users to stream YouTube videos from their computer and set up those same queues. This should make streaming content much easier when using YouTube from the browser.
The new feature of the website was announced today so it would be nice to see it today, although realistically it will probably take the next few days for it to go live and for everyone to start noticing the changes that were made. If you primarily browse YouTube through the webpage either on your desktop or on something like your super handy and portable Chromebook, now you can queue up videos for streaming to the Chromecast in one single tab. Alongside this new feature to hold a single tab for video queues, YouTube is also changing some things on the face of the webpage, giving it a visual makeover of sorts, no doubt in accordance with the features they’re adding to freshen up the user experience a little more.
We can also expect to see some visual tweaks on video pages themselves, you may or may not have already noticed some of the differences, but once the update goes live everyone should be able to see that the video’s box that holds the description about the clip looks a little redesigned. Google is also making things easier to share to social media from the YouTube website, and you might have seen the changes to the share buttons that are now located on the left side of the page under the video panel instead of on the right where they used to hang out. The “share”, “add to”, and “more” buttons also look different than they did before. Keep in mind though that mostly the exciting thing is the update to allow a better Chromecast experience.
