Remember the expression, “if it looks too good to be true, it probably is” or the old saying “nothing in life is free?” Well, in the case of the free Moto 360 watch that was promised to the attendees of Google I/O, these two sayings are very relevant. All Canadians that attended the conference will have to wait a little longer for their free watch – it turns out you are considered an ‘international shipment’ and as such, they will not be shipped until October, whereas the Americans started receiving their shipment confirmations last week. It also turns out will not be totally ‘free’ after all. Our source got a copy of the email that was sent out to the Canadian Moto 360 watch recipients and it goes as follows:
“Hi _____,
Thank you for providing your shipping address.
We are happy to confirm that we will be sending you a Moto 360. The address you provided is outside of the US, and we will begin international shipments in October. You will receive a tracking number closer to that time.
Important information about devices received as part of the I/O giveaway
The device received as part of this I/O giveaway is intended for development use. The device is shipping from the U.S. and may create an obligation to pay duties or taxes, for which you are solely responsible. Please note that we are unable to process warranty replacements or exchanges outside of the United States for these giveaway devices. For warranty purposes, devices received as part of I/O are treated as if they had been purchased in the U.S. Some devices may not come with a warranty. Please refer to the device documentation for more info.”
Make sure you take notice the section that notes because they are being shipped from the U.S. that duties or taxes may be due on delivery – and the recipient is responsible. So being Canadian means an extra-long wait and a small fee may apply, but you will get a nice Moto 360 smartwatch.
The watch comes with a genuine leather band crafted by Horween in Chicago, although it is interchangeable with a wristband of your choice. The case is made from stainless steel, yet it weighs only 49 grams. It is 46mm in diameter, comes in at 11.5mm thick, and on the back is a built in optical heart monitor. With an IP67 certification, you can expect to be under water for about 30 minutes before you have any problems. This Android Wear device uses a TI OMAP 3 CPU, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. Connectivity is provided via Bluetooth 4.0 LE and a 320mAh battery supplies power. It also comes with a nice charging pad in which you can easy drop the watch on it to charge rather than fool with wires or plugs.
Now that you have read more about the Moto 360, are you as excited to get the smartwatch as you were when you first heard about it? Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know…as always, we would love to hear from you.
