We have all read about the new HTC Desire 510 – bringing both 64-bit and LTE to the company’s lowest priced mid-range smartphone. A very wise move on HTC’s part, putting two of the most sought after features on a lower end model…it should position them very well in those pesky emerging nations and lower income areas. We heard that it was headed up north to our Canadian brethren in the coming months; however, a little closer to home, Cricket Wireless has just announced that they would be among the first to launch the Desire 510 starting September 19 and for only $149.99. It will be available at more than 2,800 GameStop retail locations in the U.S. When the HTC was first announced by HTC, Peter Chou, CEO of HTC said, “Owning the latest and greatest technology shouldn’t be reserved for those with the highest budgets.”
Andy Smoak, head of product for Cricket Wireless, said, “With the high performing HTC Desire 510, we are giving Cricket customers another great LTE device to choose from among our extensive lineup of 4G LTE supported devices. In addition to offering the latest must-have devices, Cricket provides one of the best values in no-annual contract with plans starting at $35 per month after a $5 credit for using Auto Pay, taxes and fees included, all riding on a new and fast network that covers over 98% of the population.”
The HTC Desire 510 has a 4.7-inch FWVGA display with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. A Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core 410 processor clocked at 1.2GHz powers the device. It has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage and comes with a microSD card slot to increase the storage. This is the first device to use the new low-end 64-bit SoC that sports four Cortex-AA53 cores and an Adreno 306 GPU. It has a 5MP main camera and a VGA front-facing camera (FFC) for video chatting and taking selfies. It will be running Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6.
HTC has gone all out with the Desire 510 – even producing a special Dot View Case, which was one of the most popular cases for their high-end HTC One M8. With a great phone and Cricket’s reasonable plans, it looks like they may have a winner on their hands. With Cricket’s 4G LTE network, they cover over 300 million people – that’s more coverage than Sprint, T-Mobile, Boost and Metro PCS.
