Droidcon is the biggest community-run Android developer conference in the world. The conference is taking place all over the world and it is coming to United States for the first time this year. The conference will take place in New York City on September 20th and 21st. The conference will be hosted by Touch Lab and New York Android Developers Meetup and will feature 50+ talks by various Android experts from Google, Yahoo, Tumblr, Square, etc.
Droidcon New York has announced its keynote speakers today. Chris Haseman and Kevin Grant of Tumblr will talk about the future of Android design. “Chris and Kevin are the perfect headliners. Both are tireless ambassadors for Android as well as New York’s developer community. Plus, Chris and Kevin get that there’s been an enormous shift in focus. Over half of American smartphone users rely on Android devices, and they’re demanding the best user experience we can create. It’s no longer enough for an app to be functional – it has to deliver phenomenal UX.” said Kevin Galligan, CEO of Touch Lab and head of Droidcon NYC. Roman Nurik from Google and Jean-Baptiste Queru, a Senior Principal Engineer of Mobile at Yahoo will also be a part of this year’s Droidcon in New York.
Chris Haseman and Kevin Grant of Tumblr will be keynote speakers at Droidcon. The former is a Director of Mobile while the latter one is an Android Engineer. Their panel will be called “Create Software With Soul” and they will talk about the evolution of Android design as well as Tumblr’s design battles. They will emphasize the importance of building beautiful software in the era of Material Design. Roman Nurik, who is an Android Developer Advocate at Google, will discuss Android’s Material Design. Jean-Baptiste Queru will hold a panel dubbed “How to maintain your brand identity within the Android Design Guidelines” where he’ll talk about merging new Android design principles with the branding guidelines of Yahoo across platforms.
Additional talks will take place as well, as I mentioned earlier. Topics will vary, from discussing core skills for beginning and intermediate Android developers, recording and playing videos on Android to emerging frameworks (RxJava, Dagger and Flow/Motar for example).
