Elephone is a Chinese manufacturer which is most known for its rather well-built and yet affordable Android smartphones, which seems rather common for some Chinese manufacturers lately. The company has recently announced a trio of their new devices, G4, G5 and G6 which are all rather mid-range offerings. Latest rumors point to a new devices which will come from this manufacturer dubbed Elephone P4000 which should be a direct competitor to Xiaomi Mi4 and Meizu MX4. No word on the release date just yet but we should see this thing launched soon, will let you know when that happens.
It seems like this China-based manufacturer wants to diversify and not focus solely on smartphones and similar devices. The company has announced an “Elephone TV Box” on their official page. This is an Android TV Box and it seems rather odd at first, which it actually is, it’s probably unlike anything you’ve seen thus far, as long as Android TV Box offerings go. This is a cylindrical white device with Elephone’s logo on the front and lots of color around it. As you can see it also sports a camera on the top, this is a motion sensing HD camera. You can set this camera to record movement in front of the Elephone TV Box while you’re not home, you can even opt for the camera to send a message to your phone and stream live video over Wi-Fi or your data connection. Below this article, you can find a video Elephone made which shows this camera in action as a home guard and a baby monitor (amongst other things).
Aside from looking weird and sporting some unorthodox options, this is a regular Android TV Box containing its own set of options. You can of course plug it into your HD TV and stream video over the web, plug in an SD card in order to stream media from it or use mirracast to show images or play games over Wi-Fi via your smartphone or tablet device. Elephone’s Android TV Box is powered by a Rockchip RK3188 processor and it comes with 1GB of RAM. Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS is running this whole thing and the device itself costs only $79.99 which seems rather affordable considering the added features. Elephone has partnered up with DX.com in order to offer this device internationally, if you’re interested, follow this link.
Spray paint canister is the first thought that came to me when I saw this thing though it seems like a rather solid offering by Elephone. What do you think of all this, would you consider getting it?
